The Augusta National Golf Club located in Augusta, Georgia is the official site of the Masters Tournament. Live at Augusta during the first and second weeks of April this year are the practice tee, Holes 12 and 16, and the Par 3 course.
The Augusta National Golf Club was founded in 1931 by golfing legend Bobby Jones and businessman Cliff Roberts. The club is clouded in secrecy that acquiring its membership list would be a steal. You have better chances of getting the names in the Vatican’s College of Cardinals.
Augusta is not to be confused with the Masters, which is a world-class golf championship and is inclusive. The club is exclusive 51 weeks a year. The president is William “Hootie” Johnson. The club’s membership roster does look like a who’s who list, with one variation. Noisy, publicity-hugging rich boys are usually not included. The club still does not have a female member, although women guests are allowed to play about 1,000 rounds of golf a year.
Membership fees are in the $25,000-50,000 range and rumor has it that the club likes to limit its membership to 300, which explains why there are 300 more in the club’s waiting list. Bill Gates has been reportedly trying to get in for years. Well Augusta’s old guards now whisper he’s finally made it!
Perhaps the most notable landmark of the Augusta National Golf Club is Amen Corner which refers to Holes 11 through 13. At Number 13, Arnold Palmer sank an 18-footer for an eagle 3, which led to his first major victory. As you can see, Masters are made in the challenging fields of Augusta.
